LISA FRANKENSTEIN

Lisa Frankenstein (2024)

Directed by: Zelda Williams

Performances from all actors are good. Kathryn Newton had a weird and erratic portrayal but it was needed for the character. The gestures of Cole Sprouse were convincing and his charm was gradually shown throughout the film. Liza Soberano was cute and adorable. Carla Gugino was an effective classy villain.

However, the script and the direction are weak. Characters are one-dimensional. Their lives at school and at home were barely shown. Definition of love was superficial. Conversations are mostly treated as punchlines instead of opportunities to know the characters well.

The flow is dull. The journey of Lisa is abrupt. There’s no tension building among the characters. The scoring didn’t help when it’s needed the most. The editing is unexciting. The direction is dry.

The soundtrack is one of the better elements in this film. When “Can’t Fight This Feeling” sung by JoJo was played, the characters become more open. You feel closer to them as they share their feelings. When the song was done in acapella, the lyrics were said naturally and sincerely. The “On The Wings Of Love” was a corny moment though.

There’s romance, comedy, and horror in this film, but never sufficient to leave a mark and never enough to be truly felt.

Kulang sa pagka-halimaw ang kwento.

Hindi kumawala ang 𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘢 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯 na’to.
