UnTrue (2020)

Directed by: Sigrid Andrea Bernardo

You only have one question as you watch this film. — Which side of the story is untrue?

Xian Lim looks like an unpretentious lunatic. Mukha syang baliw na normal. His mood swings are out of this world, but still keeping a little sanity, so he won’t lose credibility for his story. He created enough confusion, adding more layers into his character.

Cristine Reyes is your all-around lunatic. Sya yung baliw na kaya kang paikut-ikutin dahil sa galing nya. Her smiles range from innocent to malevolent. Her lines are sweet and sharp. She showed extreme opposites with such precision and satisfaction. Her craziness is to stan for.

With only 1 question in mind and 2 main characters on play, this film managed to keep the intensity level high and curiosity factor intact.

It’s a thrilling battle of words and actions you have to experience; wherein both characters have equal chances of winning. Your objectivity will play a vital role on who’s taking the lead. But your subjectivity will sometimes take over, losing your own sense of reality.

As the story nears conclusion, the characters are becoming more truthful with their motives. Just when you’re ready for the next level of this mind-blowing game, the mysterious elements suddenly disperse into your face.

The revelation of secrets lacks creativity. They put all the answers on a silver platter, and allow you to fully see it without any effort. The mystery they collectively built got doomed singlehandedly by their easy reveal.

The twist is logical. They were able to answer what was necessary. The turnout of events allowed the characters to transform into their final stage which is their true selves.

The truth is just as satisfying as their lies. Ang sarap tingnan ng mga huling sandali kung saan nagpakatotoo na lang sila. Aabangan mo pa rin ang susunod nilang galaw. Nung pinakita na ang huli nilang alas, it was not shocking but it was brave and daring.

𝗨𝗻𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 feeds your appetite just right, with characters that are too good to be true. Both Xian and Cristine exude that talent to twist your minds more than once, making this film worth the watch.
