Sunday Night Fever (2020)
Directed by: Lemuel Lorca
Diether Ocampo is a restaurant chef who peeks at his neighbor to satisfy his sexual appetite. Hindi mo alam kung anong pananaw nya sa buhay at bakit sya naninilip ng kapitbahay. Hindi ka makasilip sa paraan ng kanyang pag-iisip.
Nathalie Hart is that beautiful neighbor who never closes her window curtains and always opens a peep show. You expect her to defend her right of privacy. But instead of promoting what is just, she gives in to her lust. Her decisions in life are illogically impulsive, disrupting her character values over and over again.
This movie presented voyeurism like it’s a normal routine, and viewed privacy invasion like it’s a public norm.
From that angle alone, they already lost the battle. Imbes na subukang umahon, lalo pa nilang nilubog ang story nila. The victim became a willing advocate of someone’s perverted fantasy — and would define this relationship as love.
Love is used too loosely.
As loose as the characters’ minds.
Good thing we have a reliable villain who can lead this movie effortlessly. Ricky Davao is the only character who acts accordingly. Ang mga kilos nya ang bumubuhay sa palabas nato. He brought some sense into this wickedness. His endgame is the only thing that mattered for the whole duration of this movie.
Staying true to its title, Sunday Night Fever will make your heads hot due to its ill-chosen content. And there’s no other night that can displease you more than Sunday, because it is next to Monday.
Nakakainit ng ulo sa gabing pinaka-ayaw mo.
