Anak Ng Macho Dancer (2021)
Directed by: Joel Lamangan
An amateur macho dancer gets into trouble, as he enters the world of prostitution and drugs.
The display of sex and nudity serve as the main attraction of this movie. While the story and its subplots remain as a backdrop.
They heavily relied on its sexy male actors, leaving the narrative weak and the story paper-thin. The continuity is missing. Everything happens abruptly. Scenes arrive with no proper transition. Conversations occur with no supporting scenes.
Sean de Guzman lacks emotions on crucial scenes. His resemblance to his onscreen father (Alan Paule) was a missed opportunity. Ricky Gumera needs further guidance, so he can express himself better. Miko Pasamonte can get irritating, but that feature complements his role. The rest of the macho dancers felt like special appearances—with no contribution to the story.
The veteran actors are the only ones trying to uplift this movie. Alan Paule and Jaclyn Jose gave depth and meaning to their roles. While Jay Manalo and Rosanna Roces, despite short exposure, made striking moments. Special mention to Elora Españo who also delivered. Sadly, their excellent performances do not define the movie’s quality.
This movie has no story you can hold onto and no characters you can look forward to. With most scenes being gratuitous, Anak ng Macho Dancer fails to deliver a good show.
