Elevator (2024)
Written & Directed by: Philip King
An elevator boy, with the help of his workmates, is pitching business proposals to guests inside the hotel elevator.
The determination of Paulo Avelino’s character is seen everytime he does his pitch. Because of his portrayal, you’ll want to know more about the proposal. Kylie Verzosa was able to give the fierceness and vulnerability that the character needs, making it her most layered portrayal to date.
The elevator setting is not realistic.
You can’t invest on a movie that is not letting you in.
The love story is given more importance. Some decisions are not in line with the character profile that they’ve established in the beginning. The subtitles overlapping the intro texts are irritating. The movie, showing the perspective of two characters, is a good move. But the flow and the choice of events is unexciting.
The insertion of usual romcom tropes was unnecessary. The OFW angle was a missed opportunity. The perspective of being a worker and being a businessman was not there. The success story was cut short, and this 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 didn’t land on top of its game.
