FUCHSIA LIBRE

Fuchsia Libre (2024)

Directed by: RC delos Reyes

A gay wrestler yearns for his father’s acceptance.

The journey from rejection to acceptance is missing. It’s their main plot, but it wasn’t given importance.

The performances of the leads are the best thing about this movie. Paolo Contis gave a warm believable portrayal. Gian Magdangal is a cute effective sidekick. John Arcilla is expectedly good. The rest of the cast are also good but underutilized—most especially Jon Santos and Khalil Ramos.

It’s not everyday that we see a gay wrestler being the main character of a Filipino movie. “Fuchsia Libre” has the chance to be a household name, an alter personality, and an inspiration to many… but this movie failed to utilize its truest potential.

It didn’t break free.

It didn’t pass with flying colors.

*Fuchsia Libre* is a compelling and heartwarming film that delves into deep themes of acceptance, friendship, and the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. The story resonated with me, particularly the struggles of the gay protagonist whose father initially struggles to accept his identity. This aspect of the film is not only touching but also relatable to many who have faced similar situations.

The narrative skillfully captures the essence of true friendship, portraying it with sincerity and authenticity. Paolo's performance is exceptional, delivering a portrayal that is both nuanced and powerful. The entire cast, in fact, shines, contributing to a film that is emotionally gripping and thought-provoking.

Overall, *Fuchsia Libre* is not just a movie; it's an experience that leaves…
