Hilom (Vivamax 2023) Directed by: GB Sampedro
The movie tries to be a romcom, but turns out to be a failure. They don’t have the right resources to be one. The direction is dull and inconsistent. The ensemble is not impressive. The color grading doesn’t match the mood of the movie. The excessive fade-to-black transition effects are intolerable. The scoring is repetitive.
Arron Villaflor, TJ Valderrama, and Kedebon Colim are fine, but their scenes aren’t. Billy Villeta’s accent is cringey and corny. Christine Bermas doesn’t fit the role; her energy is not for comedy. Julia Victoria’s voice sounds fake; it doesn’t match her facial reaction.
The plottwist at the end doesn’t save the movie. It’s already too late. You have become so numb to even feel anything. They should’ve established the plot and the mood from the beginning, so they can manage to make their twist relevant and impactful.
