OFW The Movie (2023 / 2019) Directed by: Neal ‘Buboy’ Tan
After its red carpet premiere last June 2019, 𝘖𝘍𝘞 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘦 is finally showing in Philippine Cinemas nationwide.
It features 5 different OFW stories — with commentaries from Arnell Ignacio.
The presence of Arnell Ignacio defeats the purpose of a movie. He is appearing every now and then to explain what’s happening. He is also sharing some facts and trivias instead of just showing the scenes.
It’s not a movie anymore.
It’s an informational AVP that can be played on OWWA office lobbies. This video presentation has good actors but poor storytelling and cinematography. The script is filled with cheesy lines and triumphant events, motivating Filipinos to pursue their overseas applications.
The stories, although claimed to be true, are mostly showing the advantages of working as an OFW, downplaying its struggles and problems. There’s card stacking and romanticizing.
