THE BODYGUARD THE MUSICAL

Updated: Sep 28

As the lead star, Christine Allado has the vocal stamina that meets the primary demands of the show. From the first performance till the last, her belts remain consistent and reliable. There’s no excitement if she’ll hit the high notes or not, because you know she can do it. Nonetheless, her delivery of lines is smooth and captivating.

As the bodyguard, Matt Blaker looks the part but lacks presence and charisma to bring the necessary thrill and romance to the scenes. Tim Yap’s punchlines are funny, but clearer enunciation would make them better. CJ Navato is just passing by.

Child actor Elian Santos’ high energy and enthusiasm didn’t falter. With his comedic flair, Jasper John Jimenez can steal the spotlight anytime he wants. Vyen Villanueva’s accent changes bring good laughs.

Even without dialogues, Vien King’s actions speak for themselves. His mesmerizing body is doing all the talking. As a backup dancer, Jasmine Fitzgerald brings a front-row vibe with her graceful movements.

Sheena Palad’s sultry vocals draw you in, leaving you wanting for more. She can tease and play around with her voice, making the song more compelling to listen to.

Due to the limitations of the material, a lot of theater actors aren’t able to sing—which is a wasted opportunity since they all deserve to be heard.

It’s cool to see the set design change right before your eyes, but the design itself isn't impressive. Since the background isn’t static, you can see it moving while the actors are on the scene. The hanging elements can make you feel dizzy.

The mother-son relationship is essential to the plot, yet the show didn’t capture their special moments. Chemistry between the lead star and her bodyguard is weak.

Wardrobe choices don’t flatter the actors’ physiques. The choreography is a mix of fun, lively, and unpolished. Transitions are abrupt. Creativity is lacking in most scene executions.

Given what they’ve delivered, the ticket price of 4k to 6k seems excessive. Either guard your money savings or let your body and soul give in to the lovely beat of Whitney Houston songs.
