THE WIFE

The Wife (2022)

Directed by: Denise O’Hara

A wife takes care of her dying husband—with the help of her husband’s mistress.

Despite having an overused topic, this movie has some liberating and inspiring views to share.

Each character has flaws and redemption. They have beautiful character arcs. However, only the highlights were shown and not their journey.

Ang haba ng istorya. Ang daming nangyayari sa kanila. Pero hindi nila kayang ikwento lahat. Kaya pinagsisikan nilang lahat.

Every scene feels like the climax already.

Deserving of the titular role, Louise delos Reyes is a reliable actress who can carry a scene—even if you don’t know what’s happening yet.

Cara’s acting needs guidance. But at least, her role here is authentic, and it has bearing.

This is a good start for Vivamax to veer away from its usual pornstar formula, focusing on the story and not on the body. But the direction in this movie falters.

It fails to tell the journey of the characters, providing only shortcuts and bits of everything.

Instead of knowing The Wife and the people around her… what we get is a playlist of emotional scenes featuring The Wife.
