UNHAPPY FOR YOU

Un/Happy For You (2024)

Directed by: Petersen Vargas

The first few scenes are magical, being able to rekindle their loveteam in a snap. Both the pacing and scoring helped in letting us feel the joys of falling in love.

There's a lot of empty words in the beginning, but as the story progresses, those words become heavy. The more you get to know the characters, the more you get hurt.

In every relationship, there are always two sides of a story. When these two sides finally meet in between to face the single truth, that’s when the movie reached its peak. The emptiness was filled with reasons. Truth indeed hurts.

During those scenes when emotions are overwhelming, the actors are able to handle their outbursts with sincerity and care. This is Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia’s best acting performance to date.

The dialogues are a fusion of food and life.

The process of moving on is the most crucial part in this story, yet it was cut short. Healing abruptly happens, compressing it all into a short pep talk. The ending felt forced and unearned. It seems like the characters are compelled to say and feel things—just because it’s their movie title.

By the end, you’d be unhappy with the script but still happy with JoshLia’s performance. The number of heartfelt scenes are enough to make this movie a decent comeback and an emotional tribute for their loveteam.
