BLACK PHONE 2

Black Phone 2 (2025)

Directed by: Scott Derrickson

ree

This sequel has the same characters as the first one. You might think it’s a continuation of their story, aiming to tackle their trauma and adjustments in life. But the movie takes on a different and boring route, with a script that isn’t faithful to the original.

The Grabber loses his core identity and borrows abilities from other horror icons. The eerie, mysterious atmosphere before is now replaced with an ice skating rink arcade. The jump scares are amateurish and out of place. The usage of phone is too forced. This sequel is too forced.

A couple of plot points keep appearing, only to be resolved whenever it’s convenient for the characters. It’s too lazy when they all gather in one room to explain things. Out of nowhere, Gwen Blake decides to evolve. The villain is powerful—until he’s suddenly not.

After dragging on for too long, the ending is a relief. The suffering has also ended. Whatever 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙋𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚 has built is ruined by this sequel that shouldn’t have existed.
