DARK NUNS

Dark Nuns (2025)

Directed by: Kwon Hyeok-jae

Are there any scary scenes?  NUN AT ALL.

We didn’t watch a horror movie

just to get sleepy.

We didn’t watch an exorcism

only to see some calming visuals.

The film’s primary focus seems to be its cinematography, making every shot suited for a photo album display. It looks good but it has no weight since you couldn’t care less on what’s happening.

Characters are just floating around saying things repetitively. Discussions on faith, science and religion are on the surface level. Story is barely progressing. Lots of yapping and haggling here and there.

The preparation for an exorcism is dragging for ages, yet the final act remains to be underwhelming. The last few scenes seem exciting because of its editing and musical scoring, but it didn’t leave a lasting impact.

Song Hye-kyo slayed and mothered. It’s refreshing and empowering to witness a woman leading an exorcism. The facial expressions of Kim Kuk-hee are enough to convey her emotions. Moon Woo-jin’s acting is believable and impressive. All the cast members actually tried their best to save this movie from downfall but they just couldn’t.

Boredom still dominates.

Regardless of the genre or lens through which you view this movie, it still falls short in every aspect—with notable exceptions on cinematography and acting performances.

Since the film is being marketed as a thriller and horror, it’s only fair to seek for that kind of experience while watching it.

Unfortunately, the only horrifying fact here is realizing you’ve wasted 2 hours of your life by watching 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘕𝘶𝘯𝘴.
