DELUSYON

Delusyon (VMX 2025)

Directed by: Carby Salvador

Rather than the usual kind of porn that we see in Vivamax, this movie focuses on poverty porn.

Sex happens because of power abuse. Sex is used as a way to escape reality. Apple Dy has done a good job in capturing these aspects.

Committing crimes has become the norm. Government assistance is messed up. Cigarette butts on breast is disturbing. In order to survive, people often hold onto š˜„š˜¦š˜š˜¶š˜“š˜Ŗš˜°š˜Æš˜“Ā that things will get better—even if it’s far from over.

This movie has the potential to be more than just a poverty porn. However, it got stuck with exploiting the vulnerabilities of its characters. The story fails to tackle bigger problems that they ought to face. By the end, neither the story nor the characters are fully fleshed out.

GBoy Pablo seems at ease with his role. Ardy Raymundo’s character requires to be multidimensional. On simple moments, he can deliver. But on crucial parts, he mostly lacks authenticity to make a convincing performance.

Better direction might have prevented some of the film’s awkward scenes. The emotions abruptly shift from time to time. The narrative remains stagnant.

Like our country, this movie still needs saving. It’s only through š˜„š˜¦š˜š˜¶š˜“š˜Ŗš˜°š˜Æš˜“Ā that we can get out of the mess.
