Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea (2025)

A Documentary by Baby Ruth Villarama

ree

Drifting aimlessly like the waves, this documentary lacks focus and direction. It is weak in establishing the situation. Tension is mostly felt through the musical scoring.

Statements from the fishermen are courageous and inspiring, yet conversations are not being maintained. Details and follow-ups are missing. Topics jump around. The flow is not gripping. You’re barely holding onto something.

But then, the documentary features The Philippines—which is not just any other country. It is ours, and we hold on to what’s ours.

The jaw-dropping cinematography perfectly highlights our country’s beauty, a treasure worth fighting for. The map animations are helpful in showing where we stand.

Unsure where to go, this documentary may not be enough to deliver a strong message. Nonetheless, it brings awareness—which hopefully leads to more resources and more support towards our country.
