GREEN BONES

Green Bones (MMFF 2024)

Directed by: Zig Dulay

You’ll get curious on how the story will end. Others would say that curiosity killed the cat. But in this case, it will set you free and put your mind at rest.

The details have always been there, waiting to be noticed. Once the secrets are revealed, you’ll be relieved on how the puzzle pieces fit together. You’ll appreciate the story for what it is.

What you get are secondhand information versus firsthand experience of what’s happening. There’s also a couple of montage, squeezing important scenes together—instead of gradually building up the tension. The flow could’ve been better. There’s a minimal struggle to uncover the truth. Things only started to get interesting on the second part of the movie.

As expected, Dennis Trillo delivered an effortlessly good performance. The appearance of Iza Calzado and Alessanda De Rossi may be brief, but their presence is felt. Royce Cabrera, Mikoy Morales and Kylie Padilla are all underutilized. Sienna Stevens is so adorable. Sofia Pablo’s acting skill is impressive in this movie.

Ruru Madrid deserves to be recognized for his excellence and consistency. He stayed true to his role. The growth of his character is truly seen because of how he portrays it.

The cinematography is picture-perfect. The soundtrack is put into good use. The musical scoring and production design are also noteworthy. Among the technicalities, it’s still the story that shines the most till the end.

The last few scenes effectively summarize the film’s message. After watching, your perspective in life will broaden. It’s time to break free from narrow and limited thinking.

And also hindi ko naramdaman yung special connection ng mga character nina Sofia Pablo at Dennis Trillo through the movie (nagkaroon sana ng more screen time yung dalawa para tumagos sa puso yung ending) kaya I didn't feel Ruth's grief.
