House of Sayuri (Sine Sindak 2024)
Directed by: Koji Shiraishi
This genre-bending film has its purpose. The treatment can get too serious and unserious at the same time, but it’s still cohesive. The different elements fall together in its rightful place, ending with a heartfelt and meaningful message.
Too many mysteries and miseries are happening to the characters, and the film is able to provide refreshing yet familiar ways to deal with them.
There’s satisfaction on how the enemies are killed—it’s one of those occasions when violence is executed with justice. The cinematography won’t let you down, giving moments of darkness and light as needed. The musical scoring helps in adding some spice and sweetness to the scenes. The pacing is just right.
Like a house, this film built its foundation well. By the start, it’s still bare and you can’t find anything to hold onto. But gradually, it’s being filled with different elements that altogether make its core stronger. By the end, you’re already invested with it. The excursion with 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘢𝘺𝘶𝘳𝘪 is an enjoyable rollercoaster life experience.
