Insidious: Out of the Further (2026)
Written & Directed by: Jacob Chase

In its 6th installment, 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 is still reliant on the tricks and tropes already done in the first and second films. Most of the time, you already know what kind of jumpscare will happen. The film seldom explores refreshing ways to maximize its theme. Some scenes are also reminiscent of 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮𝘴, 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘖𝘶𝘵, and 𝘚𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦.
The entities have so much potential. Seeing them brings back memories anew. Each has its own individual capability to enhance the horror experience, but their exposure is limited to temporary shock value.
The intro usually sets the mood for what’s about to come, but it doesn’t come off strong. The movie takes too long to find its footing, and once it does, the narrative feels thin. Their action plan sounds weak and prone to failure.
Unlike the previous ones, the characters aren’t interesting to root for. There are only a few scenes to establish their relationships. While there are sweet moments, they hold little weight.
Despite its shortcomings, the movie knows how to have fun with its jumpscares. They’re scattered throughout, keeping things alive whenever the story loses its grip.
The adventure spent in the Further still has its leftover magic. Even though not entirely new, some of the set pieces are effective. Appearance of familiar faces saves the day.
The most interesting concept in this new installment is the upgrades that come with being a traveler. When they lean heavily into that element, it reaches its peak.
The movie could have been so much more — if they had explored the concept more and advanced it even further to the further.
