NIGHTSHIFT

Nightshift (2020)

Directed by: Yam Laranas

Yam Concepcion serves as a morgue assistant in a hospital.

It may sound terrifying. But they will let you feel that these things are part of your job.

Talking about death. Discussions on afterlife. Diving into different religions. At some point, it seems interesting.

The corpses are part of our norm now. Everything feels dead.

We are waiting for something to happen to make this movie come alive.

Then here comes the climax... Which turned out to be anti-climactic.

Imbes na matakot ka. You just want to open your eyes wider to scrutinize the bodies further. Hindi ka na takot. Wala ka ng pakiramdam. Isang oras kang nakipagtitigan sa mga patay. Ngayon ka pa ba matatakot? You are a brave person now.

And here comes the plot twist... Which turned out to be ordinary.

Imbes na magulat ka. You’ll get sad. They presented different interesting topics, but none of which peaked towards a powerful ending. All their mythical and religious discussions were compressed into a generic one.

This movie is good in making things simple. The horror scenes are not unusual. The message is not uncommon. The impact is unlikely to be noticed.

Whether you’re alone or with someone, you’ll surpass the Nightshift with ease.
