Outside (2024)
Directed by: Carlo Ledesma
Having zombies and a dysfunctional family in one place is a good concept. Both elements have similarities that can strengthen their message. However, the film leaves the zombie creatures on the background and only focuses on its psychological aspect—which is not enough to leave a huge impact.
Aside from its blatant false advertisement on being a “zombie” film, 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 also missed its opportunity to use zombies in projecting traumas. Traumas and zombies could have been a powerful duo to amplify what the characters are going through. Unfortunately, the film didn’t utilize this potential.
The execution is more dramatic than thrilling. The visuals are more glamorous than terrifying.
The movie’s running time is unnecessarily lengthy. Too many times you’ll ask yourself when this film will end because it’s dragging and anti-climactic. If some scenes are removed, then probably the third act could’ve been more impactful.
The intensity of the family’s struggles is not being sustained. Your curiosity about the characters is not being heightened. Also, the ending leaves a damaging resolution for people dealing with trauma.
The ensemble makes this film watchable. Marco Masa is a prince in drama and a knight through his character. Aiden Patdu is not a child anymore; he is that boy who can create a scene.
With her growing filmography on horror movies, Beauty Gonzalez is becoming the face of Philippine horror—and there’s no complaining about it. Beneath her beautiful face lies her vulnerability that works well on horror movies.
Never letting go of his character, Sid Lucero deserves best acting awards for his palpable portrayal. He embodies the movie title, effectively sharing his struggles both on the inside and the outside.
Because of their realistic performances, a few emotional moments are created. The musical scoring also helps. The zombie appearances are only limited, but all of them are remarkable and well-executed.
The film fails to put its psychological and zombie elements together, making it a weak narrative for someone experiencing trauma. After watching, you’ll appreciate the concept but you’ll not be traumatized by it.
Tagged as the Netflix PH first “zombie” film, 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 is just underwhelming because of the lack of thrilling elements to make it count as a traumatizing movie experience. It may look good on the outside but not on the inside.

Inadd pa yung batang nagjaks which I think is unnecessary. Di worth it yung hype.
Hindi ito tipikal na zombie apocalypse. Sobrang grabe!
As much as I want na magpokus sa palabas, may mga eksenang nakaaantok, medyo dragging. Overall, I would recommend this movie.
