Sana Sinabi Mo (2025)
Directed by: Shaira Advincula

The movie opens with a woman outing her deceased friend as gay during a funeral. It’s unsettling—not only because she reveals someone’s sexual orientation, but also she disrupts a moment of grief for the family. To make matters worse, the woman shows no remorse.
But that’s not the main problem in the movie.
It’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The story follows a son yearning for answers from his late father. Intimacy is suggested through the film’s beautiful visuals and poetic voice-overs. However, the direction and the screenplay fall short in establishing any genuine connection.
The scenes are dull and downplayed, often switching abruptly before anything meaningful can take place. Characters instantly grow close. Motivations behind their life decisions are unexplored.
It seems as though they are reluctant to dwell on crucial moments, skipping conversations and cutting scenes short. The uneven pacing makes the journey toward healing feel scattered and ineffective.
Given the strong ensemble, one might expect standout performances. Imagine having Xyriel Manabat, Rosanna Roces, and Nonie Buencamino altogether in one scene. But disappointingly, the script’s limitations keep every actor from delivering their full potential.
The encounter between Bodjie Pascua (not JC Santos) and Jaime Garcia is also a missed opportunity. Another example of how the movie fails to capitalize on big moments that could have delivered real emotional impact.
Rather than empathizing with the characters, you end up feeling sad by how the movie turns out. You’re left wishing they had given more—and said more.

AGREE. SUCH A WASTE OF THE ACTORS' TALENTS. Also, the director saying that the film is based on her late father and outrightly announcing to the world that her late father is apparently gay seems to be an exploitation and blackening the memory of her late father. not to mention that her mother apparently had no idea. boy oh boy... sayang
