Supergirl (2026)

Directed by: Craig Gillespie

The movie’s ultimate kryptonite is its lead character, who doesn’t really know how to take the lead.

Her journey isn’t compelling. Her backstory is the most boring part. She seems too reliant on the ensemble to make things work. Superman (David Corenswet), Lobo (Jason Momoa), and Krypto the Superdog are accessories to uplift the scenes every once in a while. But the movie just keeps falling flat.

Action scenes do her no good, making her look weaker instead of showcasing her super strength. She mostly boasts, but it never translates into her stunts which look basic and fake. She throws only a few punches before quickly becoming exhausted again.

The editing further downgrades the experience, with cuts coming every second. Camera angles fail to capture the key movements. In some instances, the movie doesn’t even bother showing the action itself, leaving the fights to the background. The songs don’t help in empowering the scenes.

Visual effects are distractingly unrealistic. She looks like a sticker when she’s flying. Her powers never get the treatment they deserve.

She’s underwhelming when she’s super, uninteresting when she’s wasted, and bland when she’s sober. Regardless of the state she’s in, she’s never the character worth watching in the movie.

It’s actually Rutheye who’s worth rooting for. Her moves are bolder and braver. You’ll empathize with her story more because of the way she carries herself.

Just when you’re about to get attached to some characters, the villain suddenly gets rid of them. Just when the fight is about to get real, the scene abruptly cuts.

The direction lacks any sense of altitude, always missing opportunities to soar.

Despite flying beyond the galaxy, 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭 never fully takes off, repeatedly falling back to the ground — even lower.
