The Mummy (2026)

Written & Directed by: Lee Cronin

The characters include a reporter, a nurse, a detective, and a magician. Given their expertise, they can explore the lore of the mummy from diverse angles.

It would have been more compelling to see some tension between disciplines—medical research and journalism, cure vs curse, and facts vs myths.

But all of those opportunities are trapped inside a casket, making the story thin. There’s no attention to detail in solving the mystery. Pieces of information are just hanging around with no satisfying follow-ups.

The shots are dizzying to watch, taking away the eeriness of the situation. The background and visuals are given more importance than the story and the characters. Pacing is uneven, erratically jumping from one scene to another. There’s no focus. The direction feels lost, with no element truly standing out.

Initially disturbing, the movie becomes dragging until you’re no longer interested with the back story and explanation of what happened. The people you once cared about become harder to connect with.

The characters are passive and calm in dealing with the situation, even when their lives are already in danger. It seems like their reactions are always in slow motion, even when it’s not. The ending lands well, but by then, you’re too drained to fully appreciate it.

Preservation of thrill and mystery becomes a failure. The deadness of this movie is the one that becomes mummified.
