The Sheep Detectives (2026)

Directed by: Kyle Balda

Hugh Jackman really has a huge presence. Despite his tough, authoritative facade in the community, he shows genuine sincerity in caring for the animals, making him an effective protagonist.

So when his character was murdered, the movie lost much of its charm along with him. While the ensemble cast is decent, it’s hard for them to fill the void left by his presence.

The actors’ costumes may be colorful, but their characters lack the same vibrancy. They feel like caricatures with no exciting stories to share.

Finding the killer rarely feels important, making the mystery more of a pastime than a compelling priority. Investigation moves forward without generating much tension along the way.

The flock of sheep tries to carry the movie. At times, it feels like watching behind-the-scenes footage from an Animal Planet surveillance camera.

Their wit and innocence regularly keep the spirit of the movie alive. Eventually, their intelligence, both on an intellectual and emotional level, becomes the ultimate savior.

They ask the important questions not only for the sake of the murder mystery but also for the benefit of humanity.

Lessons are calmly and sincerely shared. Through metaphors of clouds and winter lambs, the message resonates. Written with love, the film has the makings of a future classic.

The heart of this film will always be detected, as it stays in the right place.
