Rekonek (MMFF 2025)

Directed by: Jade Castro

Carmina Villaroel fully embraces her role. She’s unapologetically loud and expressive when the scene calls for it. Yet in quiet moments, her emotions resonate just as powerfully.

There is some promise in Cassy Legaspi’s acting, as she manages to keep her delivery moderately natural. With more guidance, she can be a great actress. Zoren Legaspi’s acting feels stiff at times, though not to the point of being distracting. Mavy really struggles to express his emotions, falling short during crucial moments.

Toniyah may only have a few lines, but she delivers them with impact, landing and stirring a reaction. Dom Corilla’s appeal fills the room, but his acting needs room for improvement.

Her lines bring a sense of comedic relief. Her banter with Carmina is a breath of fresh air. But it ends almost as quickly as it begins, leaving you wanting more.

Alexa Miro’s character carries a certain charm that draws attention. She can steal the scene everytime she’s on screen. However, her character development happens in a snap.

Bela Padilla and Andrea Brillantes share an organic chemistry that makes their scenes work. They complement each other. Their energies align, creating an adventure that’s pleasantly light and easy to follow.

Gerald Anderson underperforms. Charlie Dizon’s talent feels far too big for the very limited screentime she’s given.

Angel Guardian and Kokoy De Santos don’t get much to work with, appearing more like fillers than essential parts of the movie. Their story is the weakest and least developed, making it seem dispensable.

The movie’s connection isn’t strong and stable. While its potential is evident as you watch, it needs an upgrade across its parts to boost that connection.

The message of the movie is great; however, since it is composed of interconnected mini-stories, the duration of the film is not enough to build a strong background for each story. The pacing is too fast, and so many things happen that the emotional buildup for the viewers is lacking, it ends up feeling more narrated than experienced
