UnMarry (MMFF 2025)

Directed by: Jeffrey Jeturian

Tila walang katapusan. Ngunit huwag mag-alala. Sasamahan ka nila sa bawat hakbang. Unti-unti ay makakarating din sa katapusan.

There’s a beautiful contrast between the opening and the ending, echoing the dynamic interplay of the two main characters. The screenplay skillfully explores its central theme without pressuring you to take sides. It doesn’t demand anyone to seek an annulment or to fall in love. Instead, it reveals the beauty in both sides, letting you to see what they can offer.

Looking back at their journey, it’s a mix of pain and joy. A perfect blend of comedy and drama. A cycle that makes us wonder: why marry if it hurts, or why annul if love feels blissful? Regardless of the answer, what truly matters is being given the opportunity to choose. It’s embracing the freedom to write our own destiny—beyond the limitations of law.

Any doubts about her artistry and excellence can be considered null.

Zanjoe Marudo carries his character with dignity, embracing its strengths and flaws—and turning them into a performance that commands respect.

Eugene Domingo stands guilty of delivering wit and wisdom in equal measure. When you’re feeling down, she can cheer you up. When you’re high, she keeps you steady.

He is effortless in throwing hate and lines, just as the role requires.

Solenn Heussaff gives actions that are authentic and appropriate to the situation. Zac Sibug offers enlightenment by letting you understand his thoughts and feelings in just one sitting.

Adrienne Vergara lets her internal struggles be seen and her unwavering support be felt. She embodies the essence of a true sister who stands by you and pushes you to keep going. The presence of Shamaine Buencamino radiates the warmth of a caring mother. When she speaks, her words bring comfort and reassure you that you’re truly understood without judgment.

Every actor plays a role that meaningfully contributes to the story. The direction is subtle and grounded, allowing you to experience life, love, and loss with no exaggerations.

The film might not be grand and flashy, but it creates several moments that count. The songs and the musical score amplify the emotions in every scene, making them even more powerful. The script is written with experience and knowledge on the subject matter.

The way they manage to marry all these elements together is seamless. There is really nothing to unlove about this film.
