X and Y (2024)
Directed by: Adolf Alix Jr.
A woman’s name starts with letter Y.
A man’s name starts with letter X.
Maliban sa pangalan nilang X and Y,
wala na silang koneksyon sa isa’t isa.
Maayos sanang umarte sina Ina Raymundo at Will Ashley.
Walang kagana-gana panuorin. Si Divine Tetay lang ang bumubuhay dito.
The storytelling is bland and dry. The conversations are summarized through one-liner quotes. The scoring doesn’t help in setting the mood in every situation. The songs are not fitting to the scenes. The cinematography doesn’t give justice to the beautiful sceneries.
The May-December issue was just floating in the background. The age gap difference was not utilized well. Power dynamics is evident in the story, but the movie failed to address it. Having X and Y as the title, the discussions could be wide-ranging since you can easily attribute it to other subjects. But all these possibilities are missed opportunities.
Due to its weak script and boring direction, 𝘟 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘠 are just random names in this movie that can easily be forgotten.
